Press Release: NICH and Cultural Stakeholders Launch Belize Living Heritage Website

On 11th February, the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH), through the Institute for Social and Cultural Research, in partnership with cultural stakeholders launched the Belize Living Heritage Website. The website is an online portal dedicated to promoting the cultural skills, traditions, and knowledge that are continuously practiced and safeguarded in communities across Belize
The website highlights the community-based work that has been done in safeguarding Belize’s living heritage, provides access to the published inventory of Belize’s living heritage, acts as a repository for educational resources that have been developed by NICH and community partners, and provides the opportunity to grow the inventory through an information-gathering feature.

Safeguarding living heritage is crucial for protecting the cultural diversity of Belizean communities, groups, and individuals that create, maintain and transmit it. It also contributes to social cohesion, encouraging a sense of positive community identity and values.
